Jannik Schilling

I am a physicist and investor. Since 2024, I invest at Founders Fund and live in Silicon Valley. I like to write essays and read obscure books. I sometimes angel invest.

I left a theoretical physics degree at a young age, where my research focused on Galaxy Simulations and Star Formation. I learned how to code when I was around 7 or so, which eventually drove me to learn about deep learning and theoretical physics. I ultimately left physics research because it stagnated and no one I knew cared about working on the ideas I found interesting. I want to help increase the number of scientific and technological breakthroughs. I grew up in Hamburg, Germany.

Today, I focus on building and funding technologies that matter. Beyond investing, I think about how we can better fund and build frontier research and technology companies. There are still not enough highly-technical and ambitious people working on hard technical problems. There is also not enough experimentation with better models of capital formation to back them.

I am currently reading about the end of the Roman Republic, the history of 20th century industrial capitalism, and merchant banking.

The best way to get in touch with me is via email me and Twitter. I answer all serious messages.
